INTRODUCTION



       WHAT IS SOLAR PANEL?

EVERY ONE KNOW THE ANSWER, IT’S THE COMPONENT, THAT CONVERT THE SUNLIGHT INTO ELECTRICAL ENERGY.

Sunlight is composed of miniscule particles called photons, which radiate from the sun. As these hit the silicon atoms of the solar cell, they transfer their energy to loose electrons, knocking them clean off the atoms, and the electricity start flowing. The photons could be compared to the white ball in a game of pool, which passes on its energy to the colored balls it strikes. Main disadvantage of this cells. that it require specific area for implantation and continues expose to the light.

Researchers  of  MIT, are making transparent solar cells that could turn everyday products such as windows and electronic devices into power generators without altering there look.

HOW TO MAKE CELL TRANSPARENT???

GREPHENE IS USED for transparency in TRANSPARENT SOLAR SCREENs. The solar cells contain the layer of GRAPHENE and because its single layer thick(one atom), no one can detect its presence in simple glass.

       GRAPHENE  is a form of carbon consisting of planar sheets which are one atom thick, with the atoms arranged in a honeycomb-shaped lattice.
      Material used in transparent solar cell is GRAPHENE.

PROPERTIES OF GRAPHENE:

  •   Graphene's band gap can be tuned from 0 to 0.25 eV
  •   Graphene displays remarkable electron mobility at room temperature 15000 cm2⋅V−1⋅s−1
  •   Graphene is the only form of carbon (or solid material) in which every atom is available for chemical reaction from two sides ( GOOD CONDUCTIVITY )

Mechanism For TRANPARANCY
  Three years ago, a team in MIT’s Organic and Nanostructure Electronics Laboratory began to tackle the problem using a different approach to make it transparent. Then a professor suggested  the idea, for achieving  the fully transparent SCREEN
  Transparent Luminescent  Solar Concentrator (TLSC)

WYSIPS COMPONENT 

Ø  In MARCH 2015 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Kyocera is showing off a concept phone that uses its own display to convert the sun's rays into juice for its battery.
Ø  The prototype employs a transparent photovoltaic layer that can be placed on top of or beneath the touch screen.

Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) are taking a similar approach, while researchers at the University of Cambridge are weaving solar cells into organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays, where they can capture light leaked from the edges of the OLED elements as well as from outside the phone.

Advantage of Transparent solar cells
  1.   Because its transparent it can be placed in Electronic devices. 
  2.   Photo voltaic power can be generated at any point of earth by sun
  3.    Overcome the problem of specific large area requirement. 
  4.   If we use this on windows , it can possibly generate more power then conventional pane
  • It can also be used in ambient light source.
  •   It also last for more then 20 years without degradation.
DISADVANTAGE OF TRANSPARENRENT SOLAR CELL
  •   It produce low amount of energy when it used with electronic devices.
  •   Its unable to absorb all the light ( transparency and efficiency mutually exclusive.
  •   Reflection and absorption losses , Low active area.
